Basic Information:
- I am a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Grinnell College.
- Currently, I am also the Donald L. Wilson Professor of Enterprise and Leadership as the Director of the Donald and Winifred Wilson Center for Innovation and Leadership.
- For 2007-2009, I was a Research Assistant Professor (VIGRE Postdoctoral Fellow) under the VIGRE grant in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Utah.
- I received my Ph.D. in 2007 from Washington University in St. Louis under the direction of Professors Guido Weiss and Edward Wilson.
- My Research was previously supported by the National Science Foundation under the awards NSF DMS 1620390. and NSF DMS 1112612.
- During 2010, I was a National Science Foundation International Research Fellow with the Edinburgh Compressed Sensing group at the University of Edinburgh then led by Mike Davies and Jared Tanner. That research was funded under award number OISE 0854991.
More information:
- Short CV
- I was awarded the NSF International Research Fellowship and spent Jan-Dec 2010 pursuing research at the University of Edinburgh.
- I am a 2008-2009 Project NExT Fellow. My Fellowship was partially funded by the ExxonMobil Foundation.
Making Good Choices:
- Choosing an advisor is a big deal. Gustav Dirichlet had two advisors: Simeon Poisson and Jean-Baptiste Fourier. Good choices.
- Taking on a student is a big deal. Johann Bode had only one student: Johann Pfaff. As a result, Bode has 86,290 mathematical descendants (or 41.9% of the mathematicians recorded in the mathematics genealogy project) as of December 20, 2016. Good choice.
- Certainly there are other examples of good choices of students, for example Lagrange having only three students, two of which are Simeon Poisson and Jean-Baptiste Fourier. Good choices.
